Course Logistics

Exclusively limited to no more than 20 divers ages 10 and up.
To complete the TXLSS Diver Specialty Certification:

  • Complete one dive in four locations but you are welcome to dive all six locations if your schedule allows.
  • Complete knowledge reviews independently for at least four dive sites using the appendix at the end of the standards packet below.

You will need your own gear or we have the following available for daily rental:

  • $30 daily Mask/fins/snorkel/booties
  • $10 daily Wetsuit
  • $50 daily BCD, Regulator, Computer, SPG, and Compass
  • $30 daily Tank and weights (air fills not included)
  • $30 daily primary, backup, and marker lights

Additional Classes:

  • Discounted by $30 each on the same weekend.
  • Standards limit three training dives in a day so you will not be able to do them all. Once you reach your three training dives in a day, you may fun dive within safety limits.

Logistics:

  • Times at sites are scheduled with no margin of error. It is important to be at each site on time, prepared to dive, to make this work for the group.
  • If enrolling in additional classes, eLearning segments must be complete before the first day of diving. There will not be time to complete this along the way.
  • You will need to pay entry fees at each location and sign their waivers, if applicable.
  • You will cover a lot of ground driving in your own vehicle. If you can get a dive buddy to take the class with you it would allow you to carpool and split the driving.
  • To stay on track, pack a cooler or go through a drive through to and eat meals while driving.
  • It is up to you, but you might want to get hotel rooms or camp so you are refreshed and ready to dive the next morning.

Dive Sites We'll Be Visiting and Schedule 

The Blue Lagoon, Sat 8 AM

The Blue Lagoon is a private dive training lake for divers only and by reservation only. It is a small operation but beautiful. There's some underwater attractions to visit, such as a school bus and training platform. The clear blue water nestled among trees and sandy shore form a beautiful setting to train. Amenities: rental gear, air and nitrox tank fills, and covered pavilions.

Athens Scuba Park, Sat 1 PM

Athens Scuba Park is a private dive park with a dive shop attached. There's lots to see including an airplane. This park is for certified divers only, so be sure you bring your c-card! This is a clay-bottom lake so be sure to stay off the bottom to keep visibility good for everyone.

Amenities: They sell and rent gear, fill tanks, have restrooms, and offer primitive camping on-site.

Scuba Ranch Sat, 7 PM & Sun 8 AM

The Scuba Ranch opened June 15, 2001.  It is a 22 acre spring-fed lake that has one of the most beautiful, natural habitats seen in a Texas Lake.  Underwater attractions and wildlife are awaiting your exploration!  Also, the Scuba Ranch is home to the "largest freshwater shark in North America", Sisco the Shark. Amenities: air fills, gear rental, covered pavilion, and primitive camping.

Wheeler Branch Park, Sun 2 PM

Somervell County Water District opened Wheeler Branch Park on August 7, 2010. Divers enjoy several underwater attractions including two helicopters, an airplane, a school bus, sailboat, and more. There is one training platform. This is a public park with fishing, swimming, and grilling too. It is not an exclusive dive destination and there are activities for the whole family. Amenities: covered pavilions and a restroom.

Anywhere Along the WayThis class is conducted lakeside, so it will not count against your three training dives a day limit.

Advanced Adventurer Diver

Open to certified divers ages 10 and up.Divers will complete these first dives of the corresponding specialty certification: Deep, Navigation, Texas Lone Star State Diver, and pick 2: Advanced Buoyancy Control, River, or Night. Completing the corresponding specialty only requires executing the remaining dives and doing knowledge development.
