This first section contains written information and we would also recommend watching the video below, which provides more detail about our programs and how they work.
Whether your unit is getting ready for a trip to Sea Base or just wanting to get certified in North Texas, we know scouting and can help your Troop, Crew, or Ship to expand your program to the rest of the great outdoors, the part that's underwater!
Besides teaching Scuba diving, Dr. DeClerk is a Troop Scoutmaster, Wood Badge Trained, Certified in Wilderness First Aid, a Leave No Trace Trainer, a member of the Order of the Arrow, and a Merit Badge Counselor for the Longhorn Council's Mustang District. Mr. Record is a former Life Scout. Mr. Smith is an Eagle Scout.
Types of Classes
Please visit our Open Water Details page for how different courses work.
Discounts: We offer a 15% BSA/Crew/Ship youth and 10% family member discount for the Open Water Diver course and continuing education courses. We offer a 50% BSA youth and family member discount for the Discover Scuba program. Contact us and we'll provide the discount code(s) to use at checkout.
Scuba Diving Merit badge: To earn the Scuba Merit badge, one must be certified as an Open Water Diver. In the spirit of scouting, the Scuba Merit Badge class is offered at no additional charge alongside the PADI Open Water Scuba Diver course. Anyone participating must be able to swim 200 yards and tread/float for 10 minutes. The first Scuba Merit Badge requirement is that scouts already have their Swimming Merit Badge. Click here for the full list of the Scuba Merit Badge requirements. If a Scout is already certified as an Open Water Diver from PADI or another BSA approved agency, we can work with them to complete this badge at no charge too.
Locations: Knowledge development is independent study. Pool sessions are at our pool in Colleyville. Lake dives are at The Scuba Ranch, which offers primitive camping, showers, and flushing toilets for only $5 a night. You could add a Scuba Campout to your unit's annual plan easily. Keep in mind local diving months are May-October, and the water's warmest June-September.
BSA Youth Protection: Because we are focused on safety and evaluating divers, we cannot provide shore supervision or two-deep leadership for YPT purposes. We recommend youth and parents take their class together. Parent already Open Water certified? We are limited to eight divers in the class, so if it has been a while since you certified, you might take the course with your Scout or take Advanced Open Water or a dive specialty and join us in the water. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or your troop's provided two-deep leadership while on shore or for any camping activities. On dives, you will be assigned your buddy for both dive purposes and Merit Badge YPT buddy rules.
