The SDI Advanced Adventure Diver Course at OCD Divers is the perfect next step after Open Water certification. This course introduces you to five different SDI specialty areas, allowing you to explore new types of diving while building confidence, skill, and underwater awareness. Two core dives—Deep and Navigation—are required, and the remaining three adventure dives are selected based on your interests and local conditions.

ADVANCED ADVENTURE DIVER

What You’ll Learn

This course provides hands‑on experience across multiple specialty areas and serves as the perfect next step after Open Water certification. It is widely recognized as an Advanced Open Water (AOW)–level continuing education program, helping divers build confidence, expand skills, and explore new types of diving.

  • Deep Diving: Planning and conducting dives beyond 60 feet, including depth management and safety considerations.
  • Navigation: Using natural references and a compass to navigate underwater with precision.
  • Additional specialties: Choose from options such as Advanced Buoyancy, Night Diving, Boat Diving, Computer Nitrox, Marine Ecosystem Awareness, and more.
  • Skill refinement: Improved buoyancy, trim, situational awareness, propulsion, and dive planning.
  • Experience-building: Exposure to new environments and dive types under instructor supervision.

Program Overview

The Advanced Adventure Diver Course expands your comfort zone and introduces you to new diving opportunities. Each adventure dive counts as the first dive toward its corresponding specialty certification, making this course a flexible and efficient way to explore continuing education. Many divers choose this course as their AOW-equivalent pathway to advanced diving skills.

Prerequisites: Open Water Scuba Diver, Junior Open Water Scuba Diver, or equivalent.

Minimum age: 18, or 10 years old with parental consent.

Equipment needed: Standard personal gear and scuba gear, plus any specific gear required for chosen dives. Please see our continuing education gear page to review options.

Where Training Takes Place

Training is conducted at local lake sites, with dive selections based on conditions and student goals. These environments provide realistic settings for practicing navigation, deep diving, buoyancy control, and other advanced‑level skills commonly associated with AOW‑style training.
