This distinctive specialty focuses on exploration, Texas dive history, and multi‑site dive planning:
- Exclusive Texas dive history: Learn the background, development, and unique features of each location.
- Site orientation: Understand entries, navigation routes, depths, and notable underwater attractions.
- Multi‑site logistics: Plan and execute a multi‑location dive weekend across Texas.
- Environmental awareness: Protect Texas freshwater environments while diving.
- Confidence and independence: Build the skills needed to return and dive these sites safely on your own.
Program Overview
This certification is exclusive to OCD Divers and limited to no more than eight divers ages 10 and up. To complete the Texas Lone Star State Diver certification, divers must complete one dive in four different Texas locations and complete knowledge reviews for at least four dive sites using the provided standards packet.
Training includes guided orientation dives at up to six Texas shore diving destinations, depending on schedule and conditions. Sites may include The Blue Lagoon, Athens Scuba Park, The Scuba Ranch, Wheeler Branch, and others across the state.
Prerequisites: Open Water Diver certification. Minimum age 10.
Equipment needed: A complete scuba kit including mask, snorkel, fins, boots, BCD, regulator set, gauges or computer, exposure protection appropriate for conditions, surface signaling devices, and a cutting tool. Additional gear such as lights may be recommended depending on dive site and conditions.
Where Training Takes Place
Training takes place across multiple Texas dive sites. Each location offers different visibility, depth profiles, and underwater features. Divers are responsible for transportation between sites, park entry fees, and any required waivers. Many divers choose to carpool or stay overnight to make the schedule easier to manage.
Required Gear
Divers must have a complete scuba kit. Personal gear such as masks, snorkels, fins, and booties are required. Tanks and weights may be rented at each location or through OCD Divers. Additional rental gear is available, including wetsuits, BCDs, regulators, computers, and lights.
