Valhalla is a decommissioned Atlas‑F missile silo near Abilene, Texas. You’ll descend into a perfectly still, steel‑lined chamber with crystal‑clear water and surreal acoustics, reaching depths of 100–130 ft depending on water levels. Access is extremely limited — only a few dive shops are allowed each year.

Lights Required: Primary, backup, marker

Standard scuba kit: BCD, computer, regulators, 5mm wetsuit, mask, fins, boots. Gloves and hood optional.

Rental gear is issued in the parking lot.

All tank changes take place in the parking lot, and each diver brings one tank at a time down to the platform. Because of the stairs, bridge, and distance involved, everyone needs to be able to carry their own gear. The walk is very doable, but it does take energy — expect to feel it by the end of the day.

Nitrox is limited and must be blended in advance — reserve at least 10 days before the trip.

Physical ability requirement: Divers must be able to carry their own gear between the parking lot and the water. Limit gear below - it is recommended to kit-up in the parking lot then walk down in gear, ready to dive.

• Start each dive with a full tank (90%+)
• No bounce diving (no surface interval floating on the water)
• Plan proper surface intervals to rest, hydrate, snack, and change gear
• Bring your own tanks or rent from us — air fills available on site
• Nitrox tanks rented on‑site are single‑use only

Dive supervision and buddy system: Dive times are published in the schedule, and divers are expected to buddy‑up and conduct dives together. OCD Divers provides site access, logistics, and safety briefings, but we do not supervise individual buddy teams underwater. Each participant is responsible for their own dive planning, buddy checks, gas management, and adherence to safe diving practices.

Almost every diver joins this tour — it’s that good. The Private Atlas Missile Museum of Texas Tour is a guided, museum‑quality experience inside a fully restored Atlas‑F missile silo (Site 7). This is a private tour exclusively for our group, led by passionate experts who love this site and its history.

The museum features original Cold War equipment, restored launch‑control areas, historical artifacts, and a full‑scale inflatable Atlas missile replica that helps you visualize the size and engineering of the original system. It’s one of the best‑preserved Atlas‑F sites in the country and is normally closed to the public except for scheduled groups like ours.

Come with questions — the guides enjoy spending time with visitors and sharing the history, engineering, and stories behind the Atlas program.

The group carpools, leaving around 1:00 PM Saturday and returning around 4:00 PM. This pairs perfectly with the dive schedule:

• Morning dive at Valhalla
• Private guided tour of the Atlas Missile Museum of Texas
• Late‑afternoon or Sunday morning dive

Primitive Camping — $25/night

Simple, open camping on the Valhalla property.

RV / Trailer Camping — $130/weekend (No Hookups)

No electrical, water, sewer hookups, or dump stations. Bring everything needed for dry camping. Fill fresh water tanks before arrival; generators welcome.

Beds Inside the Silo — $130/night/bed (1–2 people)

• Located in the historic control room
• Six queen‑sized Murphy beds with privacy curtains
• Climate‑stable environment
• Pillows, sheets, and blankets provided
• Large shared space — not private hotel rooms
• Morning coffee provided

Prefer to Stay Off‑Site?

Hotels in Abilene and a nearby state park campground are available. On‑site lodging is most convenient for early dives and gear access.

This is a remote site without restaurants nearby. Bring a cooler with food, water, and snacks.

Optional group dinner: Saturday night in Abilene. Everyone orders what they like and pays their own bill.

No alcohol within 12 hours of diving.

Valhalla is a historic Cold War facility. Please follow all rules and treat the site with care.

All reservations are non‑refundable. This is an annual, limited‑access program, and dates cannot be rescheduled or transferred. We prepay the operator and commit to your space for the season.

How deep is the dive?

What is the water temperature?

~60°F year‑round. 5mm wetsuits recommended; 7mm available in limited sizes.

Can beginners dive here?

Yes — Open Water divers may participate but are limited to 60 ft. This is a great opportunity to complete your Deep Diver certification Saturday morning.

Can I do technical or rebreather dives?

Yes, with pre‑approval. Contact us to discuss your certifications, experience, and dive plan before registering.

Is nitrox available?

Yes — limited supply. Reserve early.

Are there bathrooms?

Yes — basic facilities on site. The topside bathhouse has solar‑heated water (limited). Downstairs has men’s and women’s restrooms and a single shower.

Can I camp on site?

Yes — primitive and RV/trailer camping are available. The site is over 1,000 ft elevation and can be windy; weather changes quickly. Sunrises and sunsets are stunning.

Do RV sites have hookups?

No — RV sites are dry camping only.

What are the beds inside the silo like?

Queen‑sized Murphy beds with privacy curtains. Pillows, sheets, and blankets provided. Shared space — not private rooms.

Where can I stay if I don’t want to camp or sleep in the silo?
