If you’ve taken your Open Water Scuba Diver course and are now ready to expand your knowledge but would like to see what is out there first, then the SDI Advanced Adventure Diver course is for you! The SDI Advanced Adventure course will give you an overview of five different SDI specialties. Two of the required specialties are the Deep Diver and Navigation Diver specialties which are the foundation of continuing diver education.
The SDI Rescue Diver Course is designed to develop the knowledge and necessary skills to effectively perform diver rescues and assist and administer the necessary first aid in the event of an emergency. You will learn skills such as how to perform self rescues, buddy rescues, recognize and calm potential panic divers, administer proper first aid to divers that have experienced dive related injuries, conduct effective search patterns and manage accident scenes.
Prerequisite: 10 years old, advanced diver, CPR & 1st aid certification (we offer concurrently)
The Master Diver Rating recognizes your significant achievements in diving and is respected around the world at diving destinations. Here's how to get it:
The air in our atmosphere is approximately 79% nitrogen (N2) and 21% oxygen (O2). An enriched air tank contains air blended with pure O2, typically increasing O2 between 32% to 36%. Absorbing less N2 while diving greatly diminishes post-dive fatigue. Dive longer, more safely, and feel more energized so you can enjoy all of your vacation time! We can conduct this class concurrently with Open Water Diver, as part of Advanced Adventurer, or separately. Training dives are not required, so we can even meet for coffee and complete this certification whenever and wherever it is convenient.
This specialty will equip you with better control in the water, advanced techniques, more confidence, and a strong ability to protect the underwater aquatic environment. It is also fun to do with a gaming aspect built-into the class. We can combine with Open Water Diver, as part of Advanced Adventurer, or as a stand-alone course. It is only two dives so we can do this in one day at a local lake when convenient.
As the saying goes, leave only bubbles and take only pictures! It is easy and fun to capture images and videos of your underwater scuba diving adventures. This is a two-dive specialty, with the first dive either in a pool or lake. This class also features a workshop to download photos from the camera to your smart phone, edit, save to Dropbox, and if you want, share to social media. Camera rental is included. See what's included for other gear information. Ages 10 and up.
Christopher wrote this distinctive specialty so it is a rare certification to obtain! The course includes diving four different dive sites within the state of Texas or in a vessel launched from a Texas shore. Each dive location must be at least 25 miles apart. You'll learn the history of the sites and get a dive-site orientation for each place visited.
See the Texas Lone Star State Distinctive Specialty Diver page for details about this course. See what's included for gear information. Open to certified Divers aged 10 and up.
The Deep Diver specialty certifies you to the maximum of recreational limits, 130 feet, opening many dive sites otherwise inaccessible to even Advanced Open Water Divers. We will make two dives where we will travel past 60', learn about changes at depth, navigating, and safety stops both on one's own SCUBA system and a separate tank. There is a book and video to support the in-water skills development. This course is typically conducted at The Scuba Ranch and can be scheduled when convenient. See what's included for gear information. Open to Advanced Open Water Divers aged 10 and up.
The thought of dipping below the surface at night seems mysterious, yet so alluring. Although you've been scuba diving at a site many times before, at night you drop into a whole new world and watch it come to life under the glow of your dive light. The scene changes as day creatures retire and nocturnal organisms emerge. If you've wondered what happens underwater after the sun goes down, sign up! Dive light rental is $30 if needed and see what's included for other gear information. This is a two dive specialty typically conducted in one evening, starting diving at twilight. Open to Certified Divers aged 10 and up.
Wreck diving can be one of the most exciting aspects of sport diving, however every effort must be made to maximize safe diving techniques. The SDI Wreck Diver Course will discuss the equipment and techniques commonly employed while wreck diving. This course may be taught as a non-penetration, 2 dives required, or as a limited-penetration course, requiring 3 dives. Limited-penetration is defined as a swim through or within the ambient light of entry point. You will learn advanced buoyancy techniques, and for the penetration version, how to penetrate a wreck safely, and how to use specialized equipment such as reels and finger spools, which are provided for use, but please see what's included for other gear. This is a fantastic one-day two (non-penetration) to three (penetration)! Open to Advanced Aventurer Divers aged 10 and up for non-penetration or 15 and up for penetration training.
It happens: People accidentally drop things from docks, off boats or even while scuba diving. You'll enjoy your dives even more when you recognize the creatures that you see and can identify the main fish families and their characteristics. Please see what's included for gear information. This is a two dive specialty conducted on one lake day. Open to Certified Divers aged 10 and up.
