The SDI Dry Suit Diver Course at OCD Divers teaches you how to safely and confidently dive in a dry suit while maintaining proper buoyancy, trim, and comfort in colder water. You will learn dry suit operation, emergency procedures, and how to select and care for your equipment. Training includes a pool orientation session followed by two open water dives at The Scuba Ranch.

What You’ll Learn

This course focuses on developing strong dry suit skills through hands‑on practice and instructor coaching:

  • Dry suit types and features: Shell, neoprene, seals, valves, and undergarments.
  • Buoyancy control: Managing air movement and trim while diving dry.
  • Dry suit operation: Inflation, deflation, and proper weighting.
  • Emergency procedures: Handling stuck inflators, stuck exhaust valves, and inverted positions.
  • Maintenance and care: Zipper care, seal inspection, cleaning, and storage.
  • Cold water comfort: Layering, insulation, and thermal protection strategies.

Program Overview

The Dry Suit Diver Course is ideal for divers who want to extend their dive season, explore colder environments, or simply enjoy the comfort and warmth of diving dry. The course begins with a pool orientation session to practice buoyancy and emergency skills, followed by two open water training dives at The Scuba Ranch.

Prerequisites: SDI Open Water Scuba Diver or SDI Junior Open Water Diver, or equivalent.

Minimum age: 18, or 12 with parental consent.

Equipment needed: A complete scuba kit plus a dry suit and appropriate undergarments. Dry suit rental is not included but can be rented from OCD Divers. Exposure protection appropriate for conditions is required.

Additional fees: A required $25 Scuba Ranch pool entry fee applies for the pool orientation session.

Where Training Takes Place

All training is conducted at The Scuba Ranch, including the pool orientation session and the two required open water dives. This provides realistic conditions for practicing buoyancy, trim, and dry suit control.

Required Gear

Divers must have a complete scuba kit including mask, snorkel, fins, boots, BCD, regulator set, gauges or computer, surface signaling devices, and a cutting tool. A dry suit and undergarments are required for this course. Dry suit rental is available through OCD Divers.

What Comes Next
