What You’ll Learn
This course follows SDI standards and covers the essential knowledge every diver should have about their gear:
- Equipment function and design: How masks, fins, snorkels, exposure protection, BCDs, regulators, cylinders, and computers work.
- Care and maintenance: Proper cleaning, storage, inspection, and long‑term upkeep.
- Common problems and fixes: How to identify issues early and perform simple field repairs.
- Regulator and BCD basics: Understanding internal components and what technicians look for during service.
- Accessories and configuration: How to choose and set up gear for different diving environments.
- When to seek professional service: Recognizing the limits of diver‑level maintenance.
Program Overview
The Equipment Specialist Course is a classroom‑based workshop held at OCD Divers. There are no dives required. Students will handle real equipment, practice basic adjustments, and learn how to keep their gear performing reliably. This course is ideal for new divers, gear owners, and anyone preparing for travel or more advanced training.
Prerequisites: None. Open to all certified divers.
Minimum age: 10 years old.
Equipment needed: No scuba gear is required. Students may bring their own equipment for inspection and discussion if they wish.
Where Training Takes Place
This is a non‑diving specialty taught entirely at OCD Divers in Colleyville. All tools, demonstration equipment, and materials are provided.
