OCD Divers October Newsletter

October is one of our favorite months of the year, and we have a packed schedule full of diving, training, community fun, and huge gear specials. It is our final month at The Scuba Ranch for this year, and we are celebrating with two Open Water Weekenders, an Advanced and Deep and Rescue weekend, Divers Fun Day, and some of our biggest wetsuit and mask deals ever.

Whether you want to train, shop, or simply come hang out with your obsessive dive family, October is the perfect time to get involved.

Come join us for a full day of diving, food, and fun at The Scuba Ranch. This event is free to attend and open to all divers. Just pay your entry fee at The Ranch and come over to our pavilion on the Southeast side of the lake. Bring your friends and enjoy a relaxed day in the water.

We will be grilling hot dogs with chips and drinks for lunch, and we will have door prizes.

Rental Gear Saturday

Discounted rental gear will be available for the day. A full scuba kit rental including BCD, regulator, and dive computer is fifty dollars, and tank and weight rental is fifteen dollars. We will bring the gear to the lake and have it ready for you.

Classes Available That Day

• Inactive Diver Refresh We have twelve spots available on Saturday morning. Gear rental for class is included.
• Avelo Essentials We have four spots Saturday and two Sunday.
• Hunter Spearfishing Diver We will shoot targets, and since it is a private lake, no fishing license is required. We normally offer this course only in Austin, so this is a rare opportunity. There are only eight spots available and this is likely to sell out, so sign-up today!

Before we move our training programs to Balmorhea from November through April, we have two final Open Water Weekenders at The Scuba Ranch this year. If you have been thinking about getting certified or have a friend or family member who is ready, now is the time to sign up if you want to certify with a short drive.

• October 24 to 25

Of course, we already have divers signing up for classes at Balmorhea. It is worth the six and a half hour drive.

Whether you want to train at The Scuba Ranch or Balmorhea, every class available through April 2027 is posted online on our Open Water Diver Certification page.

We have many classes available at The Scuba Ranch in October: Night Diver on October 10, Underwater Navigator October 11, Dry Suit Diver October 24, Search and Recovery Diver October 25, and Avelo Essentials October 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, and 25.

We will be wrapping up our 2026 lake season with a special Advanced, Deep, and Rescue weekend on October 31 through November 1. If you earned your Open Water certification this year, this is your last chance until next May to complete:

• Advanced Certification
• Deep Diver
• Rescue Diver Certification

We also have Refreshers, Scuba Discovery, and Snorkeling classes at our pool near the shop.

There is a lot going on in October, but now is the time to act before the water chills and we shift our training to Balmorhea for Winter and Spring diving. It might be easier to just see our calendar.

We may have gone a little overboard with masks this year. There are nearly sixty different models on the wall, and while we remain obsessed, we need to make room for new arrivals. We have several mask styles on our clearance sale.
